Work/Life and Schooling Resources

Office of Work/Life

       The University’s Office of Work/Life oversees a wide range of services for faculty and officers of research to support them personally as well as to support their families’ well-being, care, and educational needs. Programs and services offered through the Office of Work/Life include:

  • Well-Being programs that support the mental, emotional, and physical health and well-being of the Columbia community through virtual and on-site programs and workshops, online resources, and more.
  • Housing Information and Referral Service: for support navigating the New York City and suburban real estate markets including information about non-Columbia rental and purchasing processes for current employees as well as recruits;
  • Adult and Elder Care support through Office of Work/Life workshops and back-up care as well as counseling, referrals, and specialized services accessed through the University’s Employee Assistance Program; and
  • Faculty Recruitment includes the Faculty Spouse/Partner Dual Career Service and supports the impact of relocation on the whole family.

The Office of Work/Life offers more information about the programs mentioned above, as well as a calendar of workshops and other resources for affiliates at different lifecycle stages.


The School at Columbia University

       The School at Columbia University serves students in grades K–8 drawn equally from the families of University affiliates and from the local neighborhood. Information about its curriculum, admissions procedures, eligibility requirements, and financial aid policies can be found at The School at Columbia University. Faculty should contact the Admissions and Enrollment Office with questions about the process or eligibility to apply.


Tompkins Hall Nursery and Childcare Center

       Founded by Columbia professors during the 1930s, Tompkins Hall Nursery and Childcare Center originated as an intimate, part-time parent cooperative nursery. Tompkins Hall has programs for infants through five-year-olds, and primarily serves the Columbia University community.
